DISCLAIMER: the following enraged vent is completely and only an opinion from
a non-medical professional, lactation support person and advocate of
mother/child rights.

WHY in the world would any mother put up with this B.S.? What about patients
as consumers? What are the consequences of a mother saying, "No thanks, I'll
keep her here with me." ??? Wresting baby from her arms--nope, that's a
tort, and could be construed as assault. Kicking mom and baby out? Tell me
they wouldn't, please, so I can continue to think of hospitals as institutions
more concerned with protecting the health and well-being of their patients
than with pedantic rule-following!!!

There is no way I can even imagine a mother allowing this to occur, if she is
informed and educated enough to know it is total bunk and wants baby with her.
In my opinion, it is these kinds of experiences--taking choices about
nurturing and parenting out of a mother and father's hands--which leads us to
the kind of total lack of concern or awareness about such things as should be
common knowledge, like the basics of birth, breastfeeding, and infant needs
and development.

ARRRGH am I steamed when I think about people doing this to mothers and
babies. Wonder why the decision was made, really? Couldn't be that too many
moms were rooming-in and that the once "given" nursery time--at $450 bucks for
two hours, here at my hospital--was no longer raking in the bucks.

Feeling revolutionary,

Joy
