Domperidone is legally prescribed and compounded in US compounding
pharmacies. It is also legally prescribed with any pharmacy in Canada (some Canadian
pharmacies will fill a faxed prescription from US doctor) as well as many other
non-US countries. It is also over-the-counter in MANY UK, European and Asian
countries. Many of my mothers who have family or friends in England, France,
India and other countries simply call home and have their family or friend buy
it over-the-counter for them and ship it. The non-compounded over-the-counter
or prescription is made by Italian company Janssen-Cilag it comes in a box of
100 10mg tablets in plastic and foil packets of 26 tablets per sheet with
batch number stamped into the plastic foil sheet and "Motilium domperidone 10 mg
tablets" and Janssen-Cilag logo printed on the foil side. The medication is
over 20 years old and an inexpensive medication that does not produce many side
effect and does not cross the blood brain barrier. Janssen-Cilag have never
applied to the US for US FDA approval due to the high cost of application fee
and the low cost of the medication. It's just doesn't seem to be a profitable
venture for the company. Never being applied for is the reason that the US
FDA has not approved it, you can't approve something you haven't looked at.

On suggestion of my GI specialist who could not say enough good about
domperidone, I have obtained domperidone and taken it myself for reflux. After
suffering years with no relief from the US little purple pill which cost $3.00 per
pill, I was in just months pain free and reflux free and with no side effects.

The whole US pharmaceutical industry is the most unethical, self serving part
of our dysfunctional healthcare system. And, they are the biggest most
powerful lobbyers in Washington. Sad commentary for our government to allow, let
alone support.

Warm regards,
Pat Lindsey, IBCLC
