Dear Friends:

Barbara Morrisson presented this study at the International Conference in
Orlando last January.

In a level II facility, the median number of interruptions was 71!! The most
number of interruptions came from medical and nursing staff; second was
houseskeeping and dietary, and third was the visitors.

Interesting, because I often hear hospital nurses complaining about too m any
visitors.............and the big problem is US, as in hospital staff.

Some LCs have gotten creative and bring a cart with everything they would
possibly need on it so they don't have to go in and out of the mothers' rooms.
However, when I think about it, I am interrupting by virtue of my job. I have X
number of hours to see Y number of dyads; I start at one end ot the hall and
work my way down, or see the moms to be discharged first. This style fits me
needs, and has nothing to do with the mothers. The only mothers that have a
chance to see me when they reaally need it are the mothers whose babies are in
NICU.

It is amazing that as many moms get to bf as do!

warmly,
