Am checking to see if any of you, besides Dr. Jack and 5 local LC's I've
already asked, has ever seen or heard of this before.

Mom of a 2 month old had a severly damaged left nipple that became infected
with staph. Now the nipple is nearly completely healed. Since just before
the infection began, that side has been pouring milk. Just the left side,
not the right. The curious thing is, the mom was told not to BF on that side
till it healed. She has no pump and has not been hand expressing. As of
today, the baby has not BF on the left side for 18 days, is doing well BF on
the right side only. Mom has never gotten engorged, had plugged duct/s or
gotten mastitis. She was afraid to put baby back to that side for fear of
severe pain like what she experienced 18 days ago. She told me today that
she's not BF in the side-lying position right now because of the profuse
leaking; it gets all over her, the bed, etc. Remember, this is ONLY on the
affected side. She said when she goes out she has to wear 2 breast pads and
2 washcloths. She brings a supply of clean washcloths and a plastic trash
bag to change out (frequently) as needed. I did encourage her to put the
baby back to the affected breast when I spoke to her today.

Anyone ever heard of such a thing or know why that would happen and only on
one breast? This is the first time I've ever know anyone that could
abruptly wean from one breast, not pump or express and not get
engorged/mastitis, etc.

If you would be so kind, if you know anything, please reply to my email
address as I will be going no mail again.

Thanks,
