This note is addressed to LLL Leaders on this list, so feel free to skip it
if you are not one of those!

As the person who supervises the Help Form program on the LLLI Web site,
I've been asked to remind those of you WONDERFUL HELPFUL SAINTLY volunteers
who answer these mothers' questions that it is suggested that we try to use
LLL resources first when helping a mother. If you do not find what you need
in your resources at hand, you are strongly encouraged to contact your
Professional Liaison Leader (AAPL or APL) who may have more information for
you. This applies not only to telephone helping sutuations, but also to
help forms and online Leading. PL Leaders are specially trained and just
sitting by their phones or computers waiting to help you!

LactNet is a wonderful resource for lactation professionals as well as lay
practitioners, but remember that is is recommended that we go to original
sources or carefully evaluate any information we receive before passing it
along to a mother (those "critical reading skills"). When we are speaking
for LLL, you need to be very careful conveying information that comes from
non-LLL sources--cite them clearly, etc., just to be clear what LLL "says"
as distinct from what others in the field say, (not saying any one source
is "better" than any other--I LOVE the info I get from Lactnet!).

Thanks again to all of you who are so helpful with volunteering to answer
mothers' questions via the Internet, and for caring so much about giving
them good answers. If any of you are LLL Leaders and have not heard of the
Help Form program, visit the LLLeaderWeb section of the LLLI Web site, or
email Tamara Elliott ([log in to unmask]) for more information.

Thank you! Back to the regular content of the list.
