Mary Lou - Was so interested in your post about the success your NICU has in
feeding your premie babies - 100% of babies receiving mother's milk is quite
an achievement! Could you send more info on the "breastmilk fortifier and
other additives such as microlipids and NACL" - what are these things, which
babies receive them, and what is the rationale? The reason I ask is that
these additives are not used here at all - even the tinies (the smallest
I've worked with have been twins 6OOg and 700g at birth, 26 weeks gestation)
receive their own mothers' milk as soon as it is available (within about 48
hours post-partum), with no additives except Vit D. Assuming the mother is
providing sufficient quantities of EBM is it concluded that the quality is
inadequate? Are the additives considered necessary for all VLBW babies
receiving EBM?
