Sesame Street is a TV show that is watched by many
many toddlers and young children here in the US.

It seems like Sesame Street thinks the normal way to
feed babies is with a bottle. They show babies with
bottles over and over, and never ever show a
breastfeeding baby.

Yesterday, the topic of the Elmo's World segment was
"babies." In the little intro they showed at least 5
babies with bottles, and none nursing. Then Elmo got
email from his friend Snuffleupagus, who was dressed
as a baby, complete with giant-sized bottle. A kid
took a trip to a farm to see baby animals, and not one
baby animal was shown feeding from its mother, and the
child even bottle fed some piglets!!!?!?! Then they
had a bit about how a baby cries till its mouth is
full, and the cartoon showed a bottle being stuffed in
the baby's mouth. Also they showed pictures of the
Sesame Street cast as babies and baby Maria was
propped (!) with a bottle.

I'm wondering whether the producers of Sesame Street
are either
1. Shockingly ignorant about breastfeeding
2. On the payroll of formula companies

I'm wondering if there is a way that we can use our
collective experience to work with Sesame Street to
educate them on why showing *only* bottlefeeding is A
Bad Thing, and offering them constructive suggestions
on future programming. Has anyone had success in
changing culture in this way?
