Welcome back and congratulations, Diane! I am reminded by these discussions of ads of the simple lesson I teach my kids: ads usually, almost always, LIE. The goal is not to inform, it is to sell you an ideal image of something or other, whether it be artificial milks or pumps or bras or whatever (with the possible exception of PSA's). Often, if I am talking brands or products to a mother, I remind her of this simple fact, and it makes the rest of the discussion much easier ;-) If we want factual information, we need to read and analyze the research; we won't get if from salespeople whose livelihood depends on convincing us their product is best no matter what. If there IS no research, that tells us something too, don't you think?

Esther Friedman, IBCLC, RLC, LLLL, Mom, stepping down off the soapbox now....
