Mechell, Thank you so much for the ice cream story.  I have shared it with
several people and it touches all of our hearts.  It reminds me of some of
the stories by Robert Fulgum in his 3 books, the most popular of which is
All I Ever Needed To Know I Learned In Kindergarten.

One thing that came to me in this story is that children (and adults too)
learn every minute of their days. Everything that happens to us is a part
of who we become and are becoming. Our families first, then everyone we
meet, what we read, what we watch, how we play, how we are seen, how we are
heard--it all goes into creating the human being that we call "Me."

To say that parenting is a full-time job is an understatement.

My daughters are 26 and 30 now and I am so glad that I took my job
seriously all of these years.  Still, as Alison is deciding that the young
man she has been dating for a year is not right for her, I am listening,
reflecting, holding her while assuring her "that she is doing a terrific
job." And as Lia is trying to learn the responsibilities in her new job, I
am listening and assuring...
