we teach 6-8 for disposables, but 8-10 for cloth, which are easier to
tell if they're wet.

we tell moms that a newborn should produce approximately 2-3 tbsp. for
an "average newborn pee".  I also tell them a good way to check for wet
is to put a piece of toilet paper, paper towel, or kleenex in the diaper
if using disposables because those would be more obviously wet.
