I have been reading the autobiography of silent film star Gloria Swanson.
The book contains a beautiful photo of Gloria breastfeeding her first baby,
taken in 1920, which I am planning to have a copy of framed. In her later
years, Gloria did alot of painting and sculpting. One of her sculptures is
called "And there shall be...life!". I do not have a picture of it, but she
describes it as "A headless Madonna figure with an exposed left breast,
holding a baby whose tiny hand is reaching for the breast". I haven't been
able to find any information on where Gloria's art work is, or if it would
be possible to get a photo of this sculpture, but I am still looking.

Gloria died over two decades ago, but I am sure that she would be delighted
to be included in a display of breastfeeding art in some manner. She talks
about breastfeeding several times in her book, including how others
encouraged her to stop breastfeeding her first baby, after she went back to
work. She had insisted on doing it, saying that, if they wanted her to star
in the film, they would just have to work around her nursing her baby!

Aloha,
Darillyn
