I know this has been discussed in the past, but I am unable to find any good discussion about it in the archives.
The short version is that mother of twins who are gaining well does not want to supplement with 5 g (one teaspoon) mixed into 85g (3 oz) of expressed breastmilk. Is there any evidence that this is warrented, and a recognized protocol?Thank you in advance for any information.

PTP:
Twins born vaginally (natural birth) @34 weeks. I have all their dates/weights, but here are the basics.

Twin A born @ 1,961g. Lowest weight on day 5, 1,813g. Discharged at 2069g on day 14.Was supplemented with 1 tsp (5g) of Enfacare Preemie in 3 ounces (85g) of expressed breast milk from discharge on day 14 until approx 7 weeks of age, when mother stopped this supplement. Baby gained 82g that week, and 169g the next week. At that point, pediatrician insisted on mother adding the supplement back in. Overall, baby has gained average 23.5g per day (based on exact count of days). This includes a week when both babies were sick with vomiting and diarrhea and gained less than the previous week

Baby B born @2,120. Lowest weight on day 5 2,024g. Discharged at 2,246g on day 14.Same supplementation history. Gained 85g (3 ounces exactly!) the first week (approx week 7)without supplement, and then 254g (9oz) the next week. At that point, pediatrician insisted on mother adding the supplement back in. Overall, baby has gained 21.5 per day since lowest weight 4 days after birth. This includes a week when both babies were sick with vomiting and diarrhea and gained less that the previous week.

So the pediatrician is not happy with the weight gain, even though they are increasing the amount they gain on a steady basis. At first, Pedi said she wanted to see them gain 1-2 ounces per day. When they gained 6 and 9 ounces respectively, she still insisted on having the mother supplement with the Enfacare Preemie into the breastmilk. Mother does not want to continue doing this, but feels unsure. I am asking if there is any written protocol by any recognized Neonatology/Pediatric organization for supplementation.
Mother understands that premies need to ‘catch up’ but would prefer not to supplement.
Supply and milk transfer are both excellent
