Hello
There was an encounter with an OB this weekend. Now I have to provide
evidence-based information confirming the deep sleep state many newborns go
into following circumcisions. I am having difficulty finding citations
regarding the correlation of circumcisions and deep sleep states. (Have
already looked in the archives)

This request was prompted when a nurse suggested waiting one more day before
doing a circ on a < 24 hr old male vacuum extraction baby, who was already
showing some feeding difficulties. Night shift had already insisted the
baby have formula and a total of 3 oz was given (probably forced). The nurse
had hoped to give this baby a few more hours to recover from his difficult
birth and to have more time to get breastfeeding established. The
obstetrician disagreed when she was told about the deep sleep patterns
newborns go into after circs. The OB stated something like, 'Well, he will
wake up for the circ!'

If you have any evidence based information to document deep sleep following
circs I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
