Gonneke asks:
"why must every thing be backed up by literature and studies? Why not just
accept the obvious as true. This for instance: why question colostrum for a
mouth wash as we all know that colostrum is designed, produced and delivered
to be the first and only substance to enter the mouth of a newborn. Besides
that we know the ingredients of colostrum and thus we know it is loaded with
germ fighters. Do we want to prove that birds need the sky to fly?
Aren't there more needed things to be studied? Like how to get more
breastfeeding for longer times for more babies and mothers? Like how to make
breastfeeding be not only the biological, but also the cultural norm?"

Ah, yes were that only true in the "real world". We can certainly expound
on breastfeeding as the norm that shouldn't need to be "proved" and that it
should be up to its detractors to give proof, but the reality is (especially
here in the US from my experience) that such comments fall on deaf ears and
we are still asked to provide "proof". If we refuse on the grounds that it
isn't up to the norm to prove itself, those who ask for it will continue to
assume their view is valid. I am glad that there is "scientific" evidence
to prove the norm so we can say, (in effect and under our breath-NOT out
loud of course) "So there!"
