Fiona et al, You asked if boiling the new nipples was really
necessary--was it the boiling or the length of time you were
questioning? I don't have a reference, but I understood the boiling
was to remove harmful residue of a petroleum nature---has anyone else
heard this?

Rowena, Just back from the Texas Breastfeeding Summit in sunny Galveston

P.S. I remember someone mentioning the dreaded P*****x nipples. A
nursing mother of my acquaintance, who was combining breast and bottle
feeding (and who also tried to be "babywise", predictably weaning
earlier than her pediatrician wanted!), told me that when her baby fed
from a bottle, he would collapse any other kind of nipple. This may or
may not be related, but it is my opinion that they never had a good
latch and her milk supply sufferred, frustrating her hungry(make that
ravenous) baby. I did a long distance consult with this pair by
videotape and phone calls! :)R
