Now Rachael, did you snap a photo for me of the school aged kids with
dummies?????

When people question whether it's normal for toddlers and older to continue
to breastfeed for comfort I like to point out that many children continue to
use sucking as a way of finding comfort well beyond toddlerhood but that's
often with a thumb, blanket or dummy. Sucking on the breast does not deform
the mouth, sucking on these others things can....with potentially lifelong
consequences and sucking on these things is a diversion of attachment
behaviour away from a caregiver, perhaps not great emotionally either....but
it's completely normal for young children to need to suck for comfort!
