Some of the quotes are from people who just don't get it....: ("

I agree, except for that wonderful Kitzinger quote which had me whooping
with glee.

Also, I noticed this bit:
"Stuckey's example is only the latest of several recent court cases in the
US in which continued nursing has resulted in action against the mother - in
some, proceedings have resulted in children being put into foster care. This
is ironic in a society that places immense pressure upon women to breastfeed
in the first place."

Is this true? Is the US seen as a place which puts immense pressure to
breastfeed? The single country that stepped out of the WHO Code? I certainly
hope this is not considered so. I'd HATE to see a "low pressure" society.
Weird.

The article mentioned the idea that women who breastfeed their children past
the (fill in the blanks) month "are doing it to meet emotional needs in
themselves."

Is this really true? And even if it WERE technically true, is that really
bad? Don't we have kids for our own emotional reasons? Don't we enroll them
in expensive private schools, take them to riding lessons, handsew them
quilts, etc. to meet our own needs somewhat?

This case of the "eight" year old nursing has brought this subject to the
front, as well as everyone now having a random idea of when is the oldest
appropriate age for nursing. My mother says 3, my grandmother, 1.
