When I teach a breastfeeding class I briefly mention that problems with
breastfeeding can come from the mom or from the baby. Just as sore nipples
can be caused by poor position or latch they can also be caused by a baby
who can't extend or cup his tongue. I show two pictures - one of a tight
frenulum and one of a nicely cupped tongue. I mention that clippling the
frenulum is a simple procedure, and that is all I say. I think it is
important for parents to be informed of possibilities.
