I got a call from a Mom who discovered a considerable amount of mold on
her breast pump this morning. She is using a Medela Lactina double
kit. The mold is on the flange and around the white disk membrane. She
has not been removing it for cleaning, although she boils the pump parts
once a week. The last time she boiled them was a week ago.

She has a 2 month old baby. She pumps once a day, and stores the milk
in dated containers in the freezer. She is an at-home mom who wants a
small freezer supply of milk to use if needed. She is thoroughly
cleaning and boiling pump parts today.

What about the milk she pumped this week? Should she throw it all away
from the last time she boiled the parts? It has been very hot and humid
around here during the last week, so that probably contributed to this
mold growth.
