I am working with a new mother who is scheduled to receive 3 vials of botox
to treat a frozen shoulder that she sustained several years ago in an MVA. >>
Botox is usually a local injection right? The former Hale 98/99, states: " a
woman severely poisoned by botulism toxin continued to breastfeed her infant
throughout. Four hours after admission, her milk was free of botulism toxin,
and C. botulinum bacteria although she was still severely ill. Her infant
showed no signs of poisoning. It is apparent from this case that botulinum
bacteria, nor the toxin may be secreted in breast milk. The product Botox is
botulinum toxin B."
The point here I guess is that illness from poisoning is a systemic thing,
whilst injections for frozen shoulders are locals usually, so if there was
excretion is milk it would be even less. Seems there is no exrection even
with systemic poisoning. A friend has been getting Botox injections for
spasmodic dysphonia ( trouble speaking due to spasms of the vocal cords) over
a period of many months, and the effects have all been solely localized to
her voice box.
Hope this helps.
