At this age you can usually open your own mouth wide and tell the baby to do
the same. Break the latch and try again ad nauseum until the latch is good.
Make sure to tell the baby that latch "hurts mama" and point out that "you
can't nurse if mama hurts." If he's teething, offering a frozen washcloth
before nursing can be helpful. If he's playing around, watching for
that mischievous look and breaking the latch as soon as you see a little
glint in his eye can work.

As a last resort, she can put some beeswax over the sharp little teeth until
they lose their razor-like edge (this is something that was recommended to
me when my son's teeth were chipping due to ECC and I'd end up with little
cuts as a result).

I wouldn't worry about the aversion to nursing (it is far more important to
insist on a good latch), but would definitely withhold bottles/alternative
drinking options other than a regular cup until this resolves. Sometimes I
think sippy cups can lead to this kind of latch in the first place.
