Hi fellow Lactnutters.

I have collected some quotes in my readings I wish to share with you....

1. The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, p. 43
" It is bad food which causes rickets, " Igraine said. "My sister, who
is a healer-priestess, told me that no child who is suckeled for 2 full
years by a healthy mother ever suffers from rickets, but only if it is
given to an ill-nourished wet nurse or weaned too soon and fed on gruel:"

2. The Temple of My Familiar, by Alice Walker, p. 67
Though the slavers dotted our wounds with a bit of vinegar and palm
oil, nothing soothed like the milk from a nursing mother's breast, a remedy
with which all Africans were familiar, and though most Africans no longer
belive in the worship of the mother, this last vestige of her power was
believed iin firmly.

The breasts of the nursing mothers were a haven for the very young
among us, who were permitted to drink the milk. Other wise some of the
more frighted and traumatized of the children would have died.....

p. 191. There were, after all, lifetimes and lifetimes, and love along
was healing and balm. Love alone, mother's milk.

3. Leben waer eine prima alternative (Life would be a wonderful
alternative) by Maxi Wander, p. 93
(I will translate) Does he (your son) take your pretty breast? My
Dani is 6 and still sucks his thumb because he had no breast (did not BF).

4. The Ways of My Grandmothers by Beverly Hungry Wolf
p.36 All my children were nursed with my own milk. Now you take all
these children that were not natural nursed - they were raised on all kinds
of milk, and they don't know how to listen and they have no pity on their
fellow men...

    p. 79 We old people of the Bloods are very disturbed about the
behavior of the young people. There is very little respect left today. Al
lot of us think the reason for this is that a lot of young people were
bottle-fed. The milk they were raised on came from cows, so the young
people of today have taken on the nature of cows. You know that cows only
think of themselves, even though they like to run in bunches. Many of the
young people are just the same.

^5. From Laura Chester's The Unmade Bed. the poem "North" by Lyn Lifshin,
page 95:

children were wanted

were always close
to their parents'

skin even during
fucking, nobody

put the baby down

except to dip male
babies in the

wind and snow
to make them strong

then close to
the nipple again
