the problem discouraging bf in the face of other medical problems (CF, etc.)
reminds me of an encounter with a pediatric plastic surgeon who was sewing up
my son's ear a while back (okay, so i can't cut hair, what can i say). he
mentioned his two children, similar in age to some of mine, i mentioned
breastfeeding advocacy. this doctor told me his wife had bf both children and
"it was great and i really believe in it." he then told me his specialty was
repairing cleft disorders, and i asked him about the number of mothers of
these children who breastfed.

bingo! turns out he had not really made a connection between the advantages of
breastfeeding and the advantages of breastfeeding THESE patients. we had a
further talk and i gave him tons of propaganda. i don't know if this little
encounter made a difference in his practice, but i like to think it did. he
promised . . . .

about those bruised nipples. i am sure it is possible this woman had some
problem but did she have a C/S to avoid "bruising" her uterus?
