Hi Judy,

You are right!  Also during the Renaissance (Italian art) Mary was 
always shown holding, and sometimes nursing, her baby.  The "away in 
a manger" scenario goes back only to the 1800s and was very 
Victorian.

It is sad that we are still passing this down to the children of today, but 
thank you to people like LLL and Lactnet, hopefully this will change in 
time.  Certainly more mothers are breastfeeding today than in the 
1950s.
