Hi All,

I have been working with a mom for 4 months - she has had many issues with
BF that sound like they may have resolved. She hasn't stayed in consistent
contact with me but sent me the following question - I have her permission
to post:

"Baby turned 4 months this week and breastfeeding has been so much better.
He still loves to take his time, which has been tough for me because
side-lying with him is so painful now. Other than being very overtired, I
had been feeling great these past couple of months and now this week my
joints and muscles are on fire. When does post-partum arthritis go away?
Have you seen this occur in other mothers? It feels a lot like the
fibromyalgia I had before the pregnancy only worse. I'll probably make an
appointment with a doctor, but thought I'd see if you have any specific
suggestions of things that should be tested. I find that if you don't have
your own agenda when you visit a doctor, nothing much happens!"

Jaye here - I asked her to send me some specifics about her condition and
this is what she sent next:

"Ages 23-29: daily muscle pain, worse upon awakening, gradually debilitating
to the point of not being able to make it through senior citizen low impact
aerobics classes.

Ages 29-32: life-style changes with more movement and less stress, so some
improvement but still regular total body muscle pain and tightness.

Occasionally joint involvement. Much worse in winter, and with wet weather.

Ages 32-33: pregnancy and first 16 weeks post-partum had significantly less
muscle flare.

Age 33: 4 months post-partum, still exclusively breastfeeding, terrible
joint pain upon awakening. Some muscle and gut pain as well.
Basically...whole body on fire.

Over the years, I've tried various healing modalities, but nothing helped so
much as being pregnant...ha ha! I'm not taking any ibuprofen, as I know
from previous experience that it is really a short term fix and then over
time the ibuprofen becomes ineffective."

Jaye again: Any thoughts for this mom? This is far beyond my experience
and education. Not a clue what to tell her so told her I'd ask you. Please
e-mail privately and to the list.

Warmly,

Jaye
