<< Why aren't women being taught to exclusively breastfeed for at least 6
weeks? (I know they should bf exclusively for 6 months and I am focusing on
the contraceptive thread here.) No one will get pregnant during that
interval. >>

>>The rationale is that women will not come in at 6 weeks for a check-up, so
will not get the shot. And it is certainly true that many mothers do not
choose to make it to the 6-week appointment, but my point is, and always has
been--that is their right. I find it utterly amazing that in all of the
debate and political division about what is appropriate for health education
for children in America's schools, teaching kids about fertility awareness
and topics such as LAM is never on anyone's agenda.<<

If this is the senario then we may have a teenage mother who is still bfing
because she didn't get the depo shot and didn't cause problems with milk
supply and is still not pregnant. (I know, best case senario) Or ...mother
gets the shot before leaving hospital due to MDs urging...has milk supply
problems...quits breastfeeding...doesn't do 3 month follow up shot and
becomes pregnant then...well, you know the rest.
I would hope that if the mother recieved more support and education about
breastfeeding and LAM then the best case senario would be the most likely.
