I am trying to determine what my expectation should be for a special
case mom.

This mom had tubular breasts, very little pregnancy breast growth, and
poor milk supply (25%?) initially with her first baby last April 2002.
She is the mom who decided to take Goat's Rue and More Milk Plus more
aggressively than I had recommended, and subsequently "grew" much more
breast tissue and increased to a 90-95% supply over a period of 5-6
weeks. She unexpectedly conceived again this past January (baby 7 mos)
and is now in the weaning process as she is 5.5 months along with baby
#2. Mom says that her breasts are smaller and "skinny" (tubular) again;
she is nursing just twice a day. We want to monitor her breast growth
during this pregnancy and possibly due some pre-delivery intervention as
necessary, but I am not really sure what to expect in this special
situation. Realizing that she has conceived while at peak milk
production and breast size, we do know that milk supply will decrease,
and with it breast size, and yet in normal circumstances there will
still be new pregnancy growth. What should this look like at this stage
of the game? Mom does not feel like she has had any growth so far this
pregnancy and similar to her first pregnancy, but again, we started from
a place of fullness, not emptiness.

Has anyone on this list experienced a pregnancy early on during full
lactation like this (around 7 mos pp) and weaned during the pregnancy? I
would be very interested in what you remember about your breasts-- where
was the "low point" between weaning shrinkage and pregnancy growth?

Thanks,
Lisa Marasco MA IBCLC
