Does anyone have some ideas on helping a mother w/ a 1-year old nursling
who exhibits an aversion to anything in the mouth other than the breast
or highly pureed foods? The mother's sister is a speech pathologist,
has done a basic physical evaluation. They have been trying some simple
things such as using a soft toothbrush and trying to get him used to
having something other than the breast in his mouth. She has tried
making a very thin gruel w/ baby cereal and breastmilk and he refuses,
apparently because of his ability to distinguish the textural
difference. He does not mouth toys or his hand. The mother is a big
proponent of breastfeeding, but is concerned that something isn't quite
right...I'll see the little one next week, so TIA for your advice.
