Just musing, here.  If a nipple shield helps a baby with a high palate
bring the nipple to the soft palate, would it help a baby with a short
tongue do the same ? We ( the LC and I) are following a mother with
severely damaged nipples. Baby is six weeks old, and his tongue barely
reaches the gum; gaining beautifully well, because Mom has a very
efficient yet gentle ejection reflex. Of course, there is probably a
yeast component (thus my implication, me, the Prescriber), which we take
care of with Diflucan (fluconazole capsules) (I prescribed fro 15 days, but
the obstetrician
told her that 3 days would be enough... guess whom she believed), but, by
reading the latest posts on the nipple shield, I wonder if I should
suggest its use to the LC...
