While helping a young mom last week I was reminded that however deep we dive into the science of lactation, the simplest explanation is the best.  As we discussed her expectations for the first few days and weeks of breastfeeding and I explained what to look for, I found myself simplifying my speech and phrasing to match what I perceived to be her level of comprehension.  Then, as I praised her commitment to exclusively breastfeeding and helped her to identify support people within her family, she smiled down at her baby and brought me down from my perch.  She simply explained that she would only ever feed her baby milk that was alive.  That comment will stay with me for a long time.  Couldn't have said it better myself :)
