Dear Lactnetters

I apologize in advance for posting on this off topic subject but my pedi did not know the answer and I am not sure where else to turn. I thought some wiseone on the list may have knowledge on this subject. Last year we discovered that my 11 (now 12) year old daughter was allergic to latex. Her reaction is of a histamine nature much like a hay fever. She is a competitive soccer player and plays goalie. She seemed to also suffer from some sort of hay fever as she would be quite symptomatic post games this last fall. She just started her indoor season and had the same thing occur. It dawned on me that it might be her goalie gloves and sure enough they contain 66% latex. A thorough search had yielded no goalie gloves that are latex free. We did find one pair that contain 22% latex. My question is this: If we pretreat her with a good antihistamine as well as D-hist (a natural antihistamine) and she uses the gloves that are 22% latex are we endangering her? I understand that repeated exposure can result in worsening reactions.
Thank you in advance for any advise you can give. Please e-mail me off list.
