Oh dear, the retained placenta had completely slipped my mind. I was
blaming it all on premature birth and NICU circumstances... Thanks so much
for the input!

Baby was born october 14th. I spoke with mother yesterday and she said she
barely has bled after the c-section, and her "period" was very light. She
is speaking to her OB and getting an ultrasound today.

Laurie, thanks to your leads I found a great article
Bone and mineral metabolism in primiparous women and its relationship with
breastfeeding: A longitudinal study
It sates (among other very very interesting facts) that
"A hyperprolactinemic, hypoestrogenic amenorrheic state was showed at the
beginning of breastfeeding."

My patient does have very high levels of estrogens compared to the women in
this study... could it be due to placenta retention? Too bad they did not
test her for progesterone, as you say, Pam...

Thank you again! Will let you know results.

Kika
