Okay, so what do I do in the future when a mom seems to have a breast abscess and her OB is not following the protocol that I have studied? I expect obstetricians, who are surgeons, to have the knowledge to treat infections. Is it ever okay to have a wait and see attitude or should the obstetrician be doing immediate ultrasound and treatment if abscess is suspected? Obviously, when mom is leaking pus, there is abscess. Do I contradict the obstetritian when they are sticking cotton swabs in a mom's breast and telling the mom to squeeze out the pus?

Arrrggg!!! I understand and expect that I will have more information than the typical OB about lactation but I didn't expect to be more knowledgeable about infection. I am feeling very overwhelmed.
