I'm distressed about this entire ICEA situation, as I'm sure many
others are. As a professional who has worked for ICEA in the past,
however, I feel some responsibility to help ICEA with this problem.

ICEA has traditionally supported breastfeeding. I hope no one will
interpret Nikki Lee's letter to President Coleman, copied to Lactnet,
as promoting a we-versus-them situation, as I'm sure that's not
Nikki's intention. Myself, I'm just wondering if maybe much of this
problem was brought on by ICEA's ignorance, negligence, glitches in
the system, or whatever, but I think we *need* ICEA as an ally in
promoting breastfeeding, which they certainly have been in the past.

Nikki, who at ICEA told you that the Code is a form of censorship?
I'd like to speak with *that* individual.

I don't know what ICEA is going to have to do to redeem themselves in
the eyes of the lactation community. The videotape, and the magazine,
are a done deal. It's not realistic to think that these media can be
recalled. We might realistically hope for ICEA to put into place some
mechanism to avoid any similar ads in the future. I have seen many
fingers pointing to the wrongness of this ad, but few hands willing
to help. I'm planning to write a letter to ICEA offering suggestions,
and would welcome anyone's constructive suggestions. Please private
e-mail me with positive suggestions for how to help ICEA to *move on*
and support breastfeeding.
