<< Have you ever noticed
that sometimes the tissue of a previously inverted nipple once everted,
appears much more *tissue like* than the *skin like* appearance of a normal
nipple AND that these (former) nipples seem much more friable? HER nipple
appearance (although certainly not at all inverted!) is somewhere in
between.....does this make sense? >>

Lynn, yes, makes sense, ...it's more like raw tissue, ...with these nipples
it may help to keep them everted after feeding till they dry and apply
lanolin sparingly, ........to keep them everted could use a breast shell with
the small hole, or use a dimple ring.

For the mom you are working with, whose nipples do not retract, the breast
shell with the large hole may facilitate healing. Also, wondering if this
baby is slipping to the nipple tip after latch. This happens often with the
sleepy, uh, ...I should say sedated baby, and fatigued, drowsy, new moms who
are not adequately supporting the baby, and most importantly their own arm
and hand with pillows and rolled up baby blankets, .....just another thought.
