Nikki and others: When I rec a bottle to patients who for some reason must
use one, I always recommend the Haberman. I have had GREAT success with
transitioning babies back to the breast or to the breast (if they've never
been on) with the Haberman and not with any other type of nipple. It is
true that you MUST give hands-on directions to the parents or they will not
use it properly and defeat the intent. I find many parents have not been
instructed that those little lines on the nipple indicate the flow rate and
that most babies should be fed on the smallest line (slowest flow). Parents
must be told to have babies open wide (say "ahh and stick out your tongue
mom or dad) and have the nipple go all the way in. Babies must use their
tongues and jaws to compress the nipple or the flow valve simply won't open.

I for one and glad that many years ago my Medela rep (bless his hear) gave
me a free sample of the Haberman.

Warmly,
Chris
