Dear Linda, I'm sorry you were offended, but I guess we all know at least
one "horror" story of how someone not really equipped to become an LC
manages to get around the requirements. I know I do. I even wrote to
IBCLE and was basically told "if she lies and her hospital swears to it"
then she can take the test and if she passes, be an LC. I don't think
anyone is complaining about the nurse who honestly uses her time as you
describe. As a fellow RN, who has worked as a hospital LC and as a
community volunteer and now as a HCP, I understand your feelings about
statements made sometimes on Lactnet.

It's "funny" when you think about it. The LCs in the hospital complain
about the people working in the community and HCPs, and the people in the
community complain about the hospital LCs, nurses and drs. The problem is
that we are all seeing moms at different points in their lactation journey
and we see different aspects. The ultimate goal is to help each mom and
baby have the best BF experience that they can.

As Rodney King said "can't we all just get along." We need to think about
where the other person is, not make blanket statements or judgements of
another. This applies to most of life, not just Lactnet :-) Sincerely,
Pat in SNJ
