I agree Liz. The other thing that happens with many untreated TTs is onset of digestive problems as these babies tend to feed very poorly, have gut damage related to or exacerbated by improper peristalsis and misalignement and typically have additional structural issues that may worsen over time. I once had a baby who supposedly began feeding well--was having very good weight gain before 2 weeks--and then took a sudden turn, such that by 8 weeks she was on a feeding tube. The diagnosis from the GI ped--"breastmilk colitis". The real cause--TT coupled with food allergies (baby would no longer take food that hurt her belly) and structural misalignment. Within 48 hours, we had things turned around by attending to all three issue simultaneously.

Subject: Sudden weight loss

I apologize if this has been suggested, regarding the tongue-tied baby who
had dramatic weight loss at 3 weeks. Mom has no nippleinjury, despite
tongue-tie. Could this be one of those babies who was just "happily
catching" mom's abundant post-partum milk supply? Now that his BF mechanics
are expected to keep supply up (rather than mom's hormonal soup), perhaps we
are seeing the impact of the tongue-tie.
