We had an opportunity to see a Whittlestone in action yesterday at our conference. An experienced breastfeeding mom used it. She said that it felt incredible, very close to the sensation of her own baby being at the breast. She said that it didn't give her that "cow-like" feeling when she was double-pumping. She also said that she wasn't getting as much milk extraction as she did with a regular double pump, not a lot less, but enough to notice. Of course, it was the first time using it and a bunch of people were watching her the whole time, so that may have had something to do with it.

Even if the total output is not as much, it may still be the preferable pump for a mom who has a lot of discomfort with regular pumping or the mom who just can't let down with the usual set-up. It may help to boost the output of moms, such as those pumping for premies, who are noticing their supply beginning to drop (much as adding hand expression to pumping will also often boost production in long-term pumpers noticing a drop-off in production). Will be keeping in touch with the Care Connection which has the pump and will be trialing it with more mothers before deciding whether to stock them in the store. Will keep you updated.

Warmly,
