Angie,

The pumps are about the same. The main difference I have noticed is in the
flexibility and weight of the pumps.

The Ameda pump is lighter weight and can be used with 6 "AA" batteries. (how
long those batteries will last I have yet to find out). The Medela pump is a
little bit heavier and the mom would have to rent a Power Pak if a battery
was necessary.

That being said I think every mom should be able to try a pump before she
buys it. At the rental station where I work we offer pump trials with sterile
parts (for a small fee) to any mom who wants to buy a pump. Actually most
times we "strongly encourage" our customers to try a pump first. Some can let
down to a certain pump better because of the feel or the sound of the pump.
