Hi,
I'm working with the mother of a 14 month old who had seen a breast
specialist in NYC who has diagnosed a papilloma in the nipple. The mother
found it because she is experiencing pain in that nipple. The papilloma is
the size of a pin head visible on the face of the nipple in one of the
openings. A search of the archives found no matches. The doctor wants to
incise a small wedge of the nipple and assures tha mother she can return to
nursing as soon as it heals and she can tolerate it. She can pump to
maintain the supply. The mother thinks there is still milk flowing from the
opening. She is Hungarian and is considering trying a topical herb
(chelidonium majus) common in her country and often used to treat warts.
The doctor called the papilloma a wart. She is concerned about the safety to
her child. I e-mailed Dr. Hale who has no information about this herb. I
checked the major texts and only found information about intraductal
papillomas. I'm at a loss as to how to advise her. I would love to hear from
anyone who has had experience with this type of papilloma or knows anything
about this herb. The mother has given me permission to post to you all.
Thanks,
Gerri Perkins, LLLL of 26 years, B.S. IBCLC
Chatham, NJ USA
