For all who are using CERPs, starting in 2007 the formula for computing CERPs changes in North America, South America and Israel (The IBLCE Americas Region).

Up until now, for every 50 minutes of educational time one CERP was awarded. Starting in 2007, 60 minutes of educational time are required for one CERP.

Since the total number of CERPs required for recertification has not changed (still 75 CERPs), they have effectively increased the requirement by 20%!

Previously you needed 75 x 50 = 3750 minutes or 62.5 hours of educational time to recertify; now you need 75 x 60 = 4500 minutes or 75 hours to recertify.

CERPs awarded prior to 2007 will be counted under the old system, so you can save some time and money by earning your CERPs before the end of the year.

The official notification is here: <http://www.iblce.org/documents/CERP50-60-2006.pdf>

And for all you nurses, the ANCC has made the same change for nursing contact hours in the US.
