I want to meet you Roberta!!!!!! My husband wonders why I burst into laughter
sitting at the computer......

& Marie wrote on the last digest:

"A word to the wise: When you make hospital rounds always check the ID bands
BEFORE the baby is put to breast.
If they never seperated babies form their mothers in the first place this
wouldn't be a problem!"
Very sound advise Marie

I have another solution - although since I implemented it on my postpartum ward
I have not been hugged by all. I closed the nursery, implemented combined
mother baby care, and assigned the "nursery nurse" to care for mother and
babes. I also added a LC 7 days a week. Now Moms and babes are NOT SEPERATED -
they come to the ward together - and stay together with encouragement and
support from staff and family. If we have a sick Mom we problem solve on an
individual basis - sometimes it means a family member sleeping over (in a
private room), or taking babe to SCN for temp babysitting - or calling in
workload -so a nurse is with mom and babe together. I am pleased to tell
wandering visitors who come to maternity to "look at the babies" that the
babies are all WITH THEIR MOTHERS. I am still hearing them reply - "oh Its
feeding time" :-) Oh yes - it is ALWAYS feeding time .......

And on we march.....
