Interesting, Jessica.....that's certainly my experience of women who
start off with the aim of scheduling from the start, though strict
schedules from day 1 are not the mainstream here....at the moment.
There is a popular book called The Contented Little Baby Book by Gina
Ford which some mothers are very keen on, and it advocates schedules.
We (volunteer counsellors) find mothers call us in some distress
because their babies don't fit the routines advocated in the book.

I find it comes up at every antenatal class I do, and yes, I find it
hard too - and like you, emotionally hard. I hide it - I think ; )

I liked your approach to talking with mothers who want to schedule,
and the reminder that we have to stay open to and accepting of other
women's choices.

That's the good part : )

I invite Lactnetters to see an interesting bulletin board discussion
on all of this here , where the Gina Ford fans say why she is
marvellous, and others fight a rearguard action!

My feeling is that women who schedule feeds tend not to bf for long.
Many may manage to feed in a way that appears 'successful' for a
time. But mostly, they end up supplementing or stopping altogether.
