As a LLLL, I was contacted by a woman who, when she was 8 months
pregnant and still nursing her 2 year old, discovered a lump in her
breast. The lump turned out to be a lactating adenoma. I believe
this is probably the same as a lactiferous adenoma. This woman
did indeed find that the lump got very big right after the baby was
born. The mom used grated potato (similar to cabbage leaves) and
found this was a big help. Her baby is now 2 months old and she
still has this lump but there doesn't seem to be a concern about
removing it right away. As far as I understand, lactating adenomas
are a benign condition. Perhaps this other woman, with what sounds
like a similar condition, could treat the affected
breast to reduce engorgement and wait to have the surgical procedure
done when the baby is older.
