Hi all. Once again, I apologize for my naivete in advance to ask a
question. I simply don't understand how the formula reps have so much
power that they can dictate to the hospitals in the States. Here in
Israel, if the head nurse says to a rep, "You can't bring samples onto MY
floor!" well, that is that. The US signed on the WHO Resolution, and it is
very clear about advertising and promoting in health facilities. I don't
understand why these people are just not shown the door (with fleas in
their ears!). Would someone please explain this phenomenon to me? PS I
hope that they aren't trying that line that the journalists use "the
public's right to know", ie the bottle-feeding mom's right to know about
formula. Again, the WHO Resolution and Code are there for us - USE THEM!
If your superiors fold, then contact the WHO yourself with a complaint,
and be sure to send copies to the head honchos of your hospital. That's
what I did, and boy, did that poster come down quick. We have to see
ourselves as ombudsmen for breastfeeding moms and babies and hang real tough
about the so-called rights of formula companies.
OK. Let's hear from you, now that I've finished my hissy (Jay????) Judy K
