Our childbirth classes continue to be well-attended here, and many couples
are taking hypno-birthing classes as well. Over 90% of our first time
parents attend Lamaze class, with our certified, Lamaze-trained instructors.
Our epidural rate is less than 10%. We mention breastfeeding in every single
class as a part of the normal continuum of pregnancy and birth.

Instructors address fear, sex, and pooping in front of the doctor, without
being asked. Because these are all a part of life, pregnancy and birth.
Women who take childbirth classes have been shown in research to approach
their births with greater confidence. I wonder about The Fear Factor being a
part of the epidural crisis. And I should probably work on my PhD in
nursing, researching childbirth ed and its efficacy!

I don't know what we are doing right unless we are just behind the curve on
all these things. I hope we stay behind until after I retire! (Meanwhile I'm
starting Baby Dance Belly Dance classes in the new year, and training our
fourth class of volunteer doulas.)
