I have also come across this many times with health care professionals
advising women to wean when they become pregnant. A good friend of mine
was breastfeeding her toddler when she had a miscarriage. Both her OB
and ND told her that it was a direct result from her continued nursing
(pure ignorance). She was devastated . There is no evidence for a
normal health mother to continue to nurse and go on to tandem nurse.
When I got pregnant I was told that I could go into premature labour (
first baby was two weeks two days over due!) or have a small baby if I
chose to continue to nurse my twenty month old. Well I went two weeks
two days over due and delivered naturally my small 11 lb. 3 oz baby.
Another benefit was my labour was nice and quick as I nursed a couple of
times during labour (good old oxytocin).
