Dear Lactnet Friends:

I wish that mothers were given the advice to hold their babies in their laps
at the family table and let the babies decide when to start solids.

Babies will start watching mom's fork go from the plate to her mouth. After
some weeks of watching, they will start grabbing chunks of food and putting
it in their mouths. Babies start by chewing and playing with food, gradually
moving to eating more and more. As breastfed babies are exposed to all the
proteins in the mother's diet, there is no need to monitor what foods the
baby chooses to eat.

Gill Rapley has written about this in her book, Baby-Led Weaning.

Babies are the experts on their own eating, as long as they are breastfed.
No need for "experts" here. Trust the babies.....as long as they are fed the
way they are supposed to be fed from birth!

warmly,
