<Before I get really upset with a doctor on the phone, I just want to verify
my facts and make sure
I'm not missing something.
Baby born 8lb/6oz, currently 4.5mo and weighs 23lbs exclusively breastfed.
Dr. advice is to STOP breastfeeding and offer formula and solids. HUH?
It is my understanding that you can't over feed a breastfed baby..is that
true even in a case like this? Also of course formula and solids are not
the solution but should mom alter her breastfeeding style? Do you think that
would affect weight gain?
Personally I'd like to see a medical workup unrelated to feeding that might
disclose why this child gains so rapidly. Certainly it can't just be the
fat quantity in the moms milk?>

Ooops, should have stopped bf my oldest I guess. I remember so well people
saying "She's so big" and in the next breath " Breastmilk can't be enough
for her." Ya, feed my heavy baby even more, unhuh. Oh well, she's now 20
yoa, 5'9", maybe 140#. I guess it all worked out in the end. I recall
knowing several other moms whose babies gained similarly, all on
breastmilk. Interestingly enough, some of them didn't take solids until
well after 6 months.

Seriously, though, the first thing I wonder about is oversupply, which I had
with my oldest. If baby handles the milk flow, they are super gainers. The
other thing I wonder is, what would the doc have said if this baby was
receiving formula? I remember when I worked for WIC that *we* indicated
overfeeding, never the docs.
